The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th

When your brother makes you watch it as a kid, Buckaroo Banzai will seem bizarre yet enthralling; watch it again when you're nearing 30 and you've got to ask, "What in the world were they smoking when they made this and why haven't the hippie kids at the University of Oregon tried to legalize it yet?"

Neurosurgeon/inventor/martial artist/comic book hero/rock star Dr. Buckaroo Banzai (Peter Weller) and his cronies (Jeff Goldblum, Clancy Brown and others) build a supersonic car that briefly catapults Banzai into another dimension and opens the door for aliens (John Lithgow, Christopher Lloyd) masquerading as propulsion experts to wreak havoc while trying to get back to their home planet.

Horribly hokey or not, this film has a cult following—which always means mainstream viewers will be horribly lost—and with Confucian lines like, "Wherever you go, there you are;" a killer end-title-character-march anthem; and a cast featuring the actors who played ultra-classic '80s characters Robocop, The Fly and Dr. Emmett Brown; you can't help but smile while scoffing your way though this title.
