Donald Trump accomplished his mission for an "October surprise" by getting voters to talk about the most important man in the universe.

Donald Trump.

The business mogul announced Wednesday that he would donate $5 million to a charity of President Barack Obama's choice if the commander in chief releases his college records and "passport records."

Why, you might ask?

"President Obama is the least transparent president in the history of this country," Trump cried in his YouTube announcement.

Trump set a Wednesday, Oct. 31 deadline for the president to meet his challenge.

The White House gave a terse response, directing questions about Trump's announcement to Mitt Romney's headquarters, according to Politico.

"Direct those questions to Boston because Donald Trump is Mitt Romney’s biggest supporter, so he owns everything he says," senior adviser David Plouffe told reporters.

Trump had earlier tweeted that the media had no idea what kind of bomshell he is about to drop ... but that it was going to be big.

All predictions re: my 12 o'clock release are totally incorrect. Stay tuned!

The "very big news" dropped at noon Wednesday, but of course, the Internet didn't wait until then to start buzzing about what Trump had in store.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the big announcement is more "proof that The Donald finds nothing more fascinating than a presidential election, except a presidential election involving him."

Irish betting house, Paddy Power, was taking bets on what Trump's announcement might be.

According to Politico, the top wager was that Trump has uncovered papers showing "Barack and Michelle have started divorce proceedings."

Runners-up included that there was "evidence of illegal drug use by Obama," presumably aside from the marijuana he has fully admitted to smoking, or that "Obama is not an American," which Trump has been pushing since Obama first appeared on the national stage.
