Last Saturday Round Five of Battle of the Bands shook The Core's foundation. Bands were heavy hitters Halo Envy, My Sexy Assassin, From This Tourniquet, The October Tree, Cassidy, Knives Millions and The Living Souls. DJs Big J, Melissa and Ian from The X were there cheering on the locals. Winners from each of the last five weeks will play on a locals' stage at the XFest September 17. Round Six participating bands are Burn Before Nightfall, Elias, O.C.D, Rip Chain, South Pond, Soulfugid, Vexengine and Zoo Melody. Tickets are $8 and the show starts at 6 p.m.

Hurricane Katrina was a real bitch. It's hard to know what to do so far away from the actual damage, but here are a couple of ways you can help: Thursday, September 8 starting at 8 p.m., purchase a wrist band for $15 at China Blue, Dirty Little Roddy's or Main Street Bistro. For the rest of the night, all drinks are only $1 at any of the three bars. That's right ... $1. You can dance at China Blue, ride the bull at DLR's or party down in style at the Bistro. They want to raise $40,000 and all wristband proceeds will go the American Red Cross. Please drink responsibly and designate a sober driver.

Also aiding in disaster relief, a Boise State student named Katherine called the Houston Chamber of Commerce to see what we could do to help displaced Louisiana evacuees being housed in Texas. They can use canned goods, diapers, toiletries, children's items, shoes, blankets, pillows and other necessities. Please send donations to New Orleans' Evacuees c/o Houston Intown Chamber of Commerce, 3015 Richmond Ave., Ste. 100, Houston, TX 77098.

Last but not least: Idaho Public Television will produce a rockumentary of a live concert and album recording of Grammy nominee Rosallie Sorrels' newest album, Way Out in Idaho: Rosalie Sorrels and Friends. And what friends she has. Joining her on stage are several big names including Roma Baran, Barbara Higbie, Greg Keelor, Ben Burdick, Bill Liles, Scott Rueser, the Divas of Boise: Rebecca Scott, Margaret Stigers, Kathy Miller, Deb Sager; Rocci Johnson, Sirah Storm, Carrie Padilla, Kerry Rourke and Mary Weaver. The concert is September 17 at 7 p.m. at the Liberty Theater in Hailey. Tickets are $15 at the door or call the Liberty Theater box office at 208-578-9122. Seating is limited. P.S. If you see Dan Costello, tell him he's playing at Sockeye on September 13 at 7 p.m.
