Silly Name, Great Event

On Saturday, August 11, the Trail Palooza bike event strikes out from the Bogus Basin Lodge at 9 a.m. and runs until 5 p.m. Trail Palooza is an all-day event for beginning, intermediate, advanced and even non-riders.

At 10 a.m., the lift will be open and $10 gets you an all-day ticket.

And there's plenty of fun for the kids. From noon-3 p.m., they can participate in riding skill tests, bike and helmet safety checks, helmet giveaways and a kid-safe bicycle rodeo.

You can purchase a meal ticket while you're up there and from noon-3 p.m. dig in to Kobe beef burgers and Clif bars and wash it all down with a New Belgium beer.

At 1 p.m., there will be a ribbon-cutting for the new Shaffer Butte Trail System and interested riders can explore the trails in groups or take self-guided rides down the new routes.

From noon-5 p.m., enjoy live music from the Rockafellas and Marcus Eaton.

Proceeds from the day's events go to maintenance of the Shaffer Butte Trail System.

No Mountain High Enough

On August 17 and 18, Expedition Inspiration will climb Castle Peak in the White Cloud Mountains, the fourth climb in EI's Five Peaks in Five Years. EI works to educate and support women and their families affected by breast cancer by conducting outdoor activities that help promote health and well-being and a well-deserved sense of empowerment.

Camping and climbing costs vary, so visit www.expeditioninspiration.org for more information.
