This week, Terrapin Station is going to blow the doors off their new digs with a funky, soulful collection of shows coming through.
On Thursday, Mama's Cookin' is coming back through town. Boise must have enjoyed their funky funk sound and Mama's Cookin' must have known it. Second chances are sometimes hard to come by, so take advantage if you missed MC when they were here in November. If you did see them, you really understand how great it is they're coming back. "Let the Record Ride," the title track off their new album, is really one of the coolest songs around and the whole CD is definitely a must-have if you love a laid-back funk/jazz/blues/hip-hop fusion.
Friday, Buckskin Bible Revue plays their newgrass bluegrass on the Terrapin Station stage. A local favorite, these shoeless wonders put on one helluva show.
Saturday, another local favorite, Farmdog, joins Portland's Oxcart for a weekend show of psychedelic space rock and rock jams. You'll just have to go to see which is which.
The following Monday, the Eric McFadden Trio graces our hamlet with their crazy gypsy rock. If you want to hear what happens when dark meets light and strings, guitar and driving drums are mixed in melancholy, high-speed Gothic sounds, you do not want to miss this band. Very, very cool.
On Tuesday, the Global Funk Council brings it on with their mix of funk, jazz, swing and what could be a little gospel (can I get an amen?). Their sound is very hip and timeless. It's not hard to imagine this music being played 20 years ago in a big, dark lounge but it's just as easy to imagine it right here and now.
There's a funky week of sounds ahead at Terrapin Station and while any one of these shows would be worth your time, I suggest you get your holiday shopping done early and see as many of these shows as you can.
