Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest is set to open a new Meridian health center—its third Idaho location—in late April.

"We want to better serve clients in that area," Kristen Glundberg-Prossor, PPGNW director of media relations, told Boise Weekly. "The location [2112 E. Franklin Road] is really convenient, right off the highway."

Glundberg-Prossor told BW that the Meridian health center will offer "all the services we're currently providing at our State Street facility in Boise," including breast and cervical cancer screenings, affordable access to birth control, well-woman visits, sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, and abortion services.

The Meridian facility is slated to be open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays for the first three months of operation. Planned Parenthood officials said they expect the hours and staffing to expand as patient volume grows.

"PPGNW determined that another health center was needed," said Rebecca Poedy, chief operating officer at PPGNW. "We are really grateful that we'll be able to see more patients who need affordable, quality health care in the expanding Treasure Valley community."

In addition to the two Treasure Valley locations, Planned Parenthood operates a third Idaho health center in Twin Falls.

In 2012, Planned Parenthood offered services to 6,520 patients in Idaho during more than 10,000 visits.

PPGNW officials said over 90 percent of their services were preventive health care.
