UPDATE: 2 Dead, 9 Injured Outside Empire State Building

The shooting occurred around 7 a.m., Mountain Time, outside the Empire State Building

UPDATE 9:50 a.m.

A shooting in New York City, on Fifth Avenue and West 34th Street, near the Empire State building, occurred at 9:00 a.m. this morning, according to ABC Local.

Major Bloomberg confirmed the NYPD shot dead the perpetrator, but may have accidently hit innocent bystanders. No children were involved in the shooting.

At least 9 people were injured or gazed in the shooting. All are expected to recover.

CNN reports the gunman lost his job a year ago. The victim he killed was a former co-worker. Mayor Bloomberg said the incident "had nothing to do with terrorism."

The New York Post reported the gunman was described as "a disgruntled worker" who "stalked a colleague down a Midtown street, shot him dead and then turned his weapon on random pedestrians outside the Empire State Building."

A shooting in New York City, on Fifth Avenue and West 34th Street, near the Empire State State building, occurred at 9:00 a.m. this morning, according to ABC Local.

Police report one suspect in custody. The suspect has also been reported shot.

Business Insider quoted an eyewitness saying, "We all heard like a ton of gunshots go off and looked to the left. There was three people down, there was mass chaos," she said.

The witness added, "We didn't see the shooter, we didn't see anyone, we just saw the victims."

Twitter handel NY Scanner tweeted around 9:15, "Manhattan: 5 Ave & East 34 St Empire State Bldg 5 people shot. Perp shot by NYPD is DOA on scene, EMS requested on a rush."

A few minutes later:

"U/D Manhattan: 5 Ave & West 34 St/Empire State Bldg Total of 7 people shot Perp DOA 1 in serious condition All others in stable condition."
