Author Anthony Doerr is claimed by at least a couple of cities as a "local author"--by Boise, because he and his family reside here, and by the Cleveland metropolitan area, because he's from there. Doerr is the author of an award-winning collection of short stories, The Shell Collector, and his first novel, last fall's About Grace, was recently released in paperback.
It's About Grace that brings the authorial turf war to the fore. Recently, the book was awarded a 2005 Ohioana Book Award for fiction, an annual award given by the Ohioana Library Association for fiction, nonfiction, poetry, juvenile books and books about Ohio or Ohioans. The awards will be presented at a luncheon and award ceremony in Columbus, Ohio, on October 22.
