Kings of Leon, Monday, May 2

You know how Volkswagen steals music from all your favorite bands and then cheeses it out for their commercials? Kings of Leon, who saddled up to the Big Easy on Monday, are the rad band who soundtrack that VW ad about a young couple who jump around their apartment and then buy a house so they can keep listening to loud music. The Kings opened with that song, "Molly's Chambers," and bassist Jared Followill snapped a string at the chorus. What a badass way to start a show!

The rest of the evening followed in unfazed badass suit-they rocked. They were loud, they were crafty, singer Caleb Followill's voice was like grizzled velvet, and their look? How can you not like these guys: part dirty south, part NYC scenester, part ZZ Top's hippy brother. The boys-three brothers and a cousin-gave rocking out their own doughty approach, full of complex melodies, finagling guitar licks and a near-immaculate drum master. Prediction: Leon will be a hot baby name in a few years.
