Here's a potential outlet for local wordsmiths: Idaho Magazine has announced a fiction-writing contest for writers of Idaho fiction. Contest coordinators are looking for stories with a good plot, developed characters and "a distinctly Idaho flavor"--any subject will do, as long as the theme, setting or central characters are Idaho-related.

The contest is for adults as well as children and there's a $100 cash prize in both divisions. It will cost the juniors $5 to enter, and grown-ups $10 for the first entry and $5 for each additional entry. For more information and to see if this is your kind of contest, visit Idaho Magazine's Web site at www.idahomagazine.com.

All entries are due by January 31 and should be sent to: Idaho Magazine Fiction Contest, 1412 W. Idaho St., Ste. 240, Boise, ID 83702.
