Idaho Ed News: Andrus Rips Lawmakers For Failing Idaho Students

"If education is our highest priority, then we have to put our money where our mouth is."

It was all smiles Oct. 11 when Idaho Voices for Children honored Cecil Andrus—Idaho's only four-term governor—for establishing public kindergarten in the Gem State and increasing public school funding. But Andrus had a sobering message: Idaho is not doing enough for its children.

Idaho Ed News reports that Andrus' comments targeted Idaho lawmakers:

"If education is our highest priority, then we have to put our money where our mouth is," said Andrus, adding criticism of the Idaho Legislature for ignoring revenue forecasts from the state's chief economist while passing tax cuts instead of restoring education budgets that were slashed during the recession.

Idaho Voices for Children gave Andrus a mock boxing championship belt, making the former governor the 2013 Children's Champion.
