Eat Your Wheaties

Forget the proclamations and plaques, ribbons and trophies—no accolade means quite as much as having your face plastered across a box of Wheaties.

Now, Boise Mayor Dave Bieter has his own little whole-wheat claim to fame.

Bieter was presented with a souvenir Wheaties box with his mug on the front in honor of his support of after school programs in the city.

He was one of 17 people and four groups from across the nation honored by the Afterschool Alliance during a ceremony in Washington, D.C., last week. The alliance supports efforts around the country to give kids safe places to go after school is out through a variety activities.

"Since I was a boy, I've had two goals for my life," Bieter wrote in a press release. "The first was to be mayor of my hometown, and the second was to be a running back for the Green Bay Packers. I think the second is probably out of my reach, but it's great to get my face on a Wheaties box anyway."

No word on where Bieter is keeping his cardboard trophy, or whether he plans to chow down on the contents.
