Couple Charged With Stealing Boise Credit Card Numbers, Using Them to Purchase Gift Cards

A California couple is behind bars, each charged with felonies, after Boise Police said they broke up yet another fraudulent credit card ring.

Detectives were summoned by the employees of a Boise retailer Aug. 4 when they suspected the pair had been trying to make illegal transactions with fraudulent credit cards. Police later said that the suspect were using fake cards but using legitimate stolen credit card numbers in order to purchase gift cards. Detectives caught up with the suspects at the Boise airport a short time later, where they also seized approximately 20 fraudulent credit cards and multiple gift cards valued in excess of $18,000.

Boise Police also said that the compromised credit card accounts belonged to customers in the Boise area and detectives and bank officials were still in the process of notifying those affected.

25-year-old Jassmine Pettaway of Engelwood, Calif., and 27-year-old Derrick Franklin of Los Angeles are each charged with felony counts of burglary and credit card fraud. Franklin is also charged with a felony count of destruction of evidence.
