Back in 1950, in the small town of in Gooding, Idaho a two-headed calf was born on G.L. Benrose's farm. The little bovine survived a mere five days. Taxidermist E.H. McNicol went to work, and in 1951, Benrose donated the calf to the Idaho State Historical Museum. Nameless all these years, it's time the stuffed cow(s) had a moniker. For more information, and to enter either the Name the Two-Headed Calf Contest or the Draw the Two-Headed Calf Contest or both, go to www.boiseweekly.com and click on the banner ad with the picture of the double-headed cow or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. Naming the creature is free, drawing him/her/it costs $3 for the young 'uns and $5 for adults (make check payable to Idaho State Historical Museum). There will be one winner from both the youth and adult categories. Ten additional artist submissions will be chosen for use in a 2008 monthly calendar. Entry forms must be submitted to the Idaho State Historical Museum and the deadline for both contests is April 20.
