rolled in to NYC mid-afternoon on Wednesday beating traffic and sailing smoothly in to the East Village (lower east side). we were super excited to be back in the city. have hung out and played the East Village a few times now, but it had been since the 2008 CMJ Festival since we were last there. really love NYC. all the people. all the neighborhood shops and restaurants and bars. the colors and architecture. so electric. we played that night at the infamous Cake Shop on Ludlow St. really sweet place and ran by great people. not very Manhattan-like which was really refreshing. they took great care of us. fun fun show. our friends Snuffaluffagus opened, followed by locals Good Omens. it was lovely.

we stayed that night with fellow Boisean Dale Eisinger (attn, in the shadow of the mountain, arbiter columnist) at his place a couple of blocks away in the Bowery. Dale's rad and doing well. really great to see him. cruised back over to the Cake Shop in the morning to pick up our gear. our buddy Marshall from Virginia band Nancy & 2 Meteors had surprised us on Tuesday at the house show we played in Waterbury, CT and had tagged along in to NYC. nice to have the extra set of hands for the load out from the underground cave where the venue part of Cake Shop resides. from there we cruised out to Queens to park the van and catch a train back in to the city for an epic adventure to the top of the Rockefeller building (top of the rock!) with another former Boisean Anna K who was our host for our second night in NYC. got the full Rockefeller tour and then headed over to Central Park. 4th time in NYC and first time we'd done some of this stuff. it was awesome and an absolutely gorgeous day for it.

really amazing day. that night we played in Brooklyn at a really killer space called Cameo Gallery right in the Williamsburg heart of things. great all around show with Candy Hearts and Field Mouse kicking things off and our friend Patrick Bower & The World Without Magic closing things out. they were fantastic. very cool set. lots of space and tasty tunes. another great turnout and we just marvelled at the great sounding and amazing looking space all night. they had this incredible dangling sculpture over the top of the stage that really enlivened the room. loved it. fun fun show. capped off a fantastic two-day stop in NYC for us. couldn't be happier about how things went.

here's a great little review of our Cameo Gallery set by a local blogger. has some photos from our set as well.

definitely a little sad to have to leave the city so soon. we milked it for a while longer on Friday and then made the slow crawl out of the city thanks to stop and go traffic for about an hour and a half that helped us take it in some more... pretty happy about upstate NY right now though. spring in full bloom. really lush greens and lots of flowers. another gorgeous day. couple of cool shows tonight in Oneonta and tomorrow in Ithaca. both shows will feature a multimedia collaboration with our buddy Joseph Von Stengel and his digital mashup projections. we've teamed up with him several times before in NY but also out in Idaho and Oregon. always fun and interesting. will let you know how it goes with the next update. in the meantime, here are some more NYC photos.

Day 67 today. we play in Boise 2 weeks from today. lots of exciting stuff in between here and there though. see you soon!
