Chances are you won't spend the 85th Academy Awards—which take place Sunday, Feb. 24—rubbing elbows with celebs, but rather glued to a television, forlornly sipping champagne.
But if you've always longed to trade a sofa seat for the red carpet, this is the year. The Boise Co-op Wine Shop is hosting a special Oscars party Friday, Feb. 22, and Saturday, Feb. 23, where you can gobble popcorn, sample champagne or soak in the paparazzi experience.
Past Oscar-winning films will screen on a TV in the shop throughout the day, with popcorn available for those looking to spend a little extra time milling about the wine shop.
Meanwhile "paparazzi" will snap pictures of visitors dressed to the nines for a best-dressed contest. Photos will be uploaded to Facebook for judging, with two grand prize winners receiving a box set of The Godfather films and a bottle of Dom Perignon champagne.
If suds are more your style, you can peruse the store's selection of booze for your own Academy Awards-watching party, or sample a new bottle. On Friday, you can taste Spanish wines with Bryan Hinschberger of Bon Vivant Imports from 4:30-6:30 p.m, or sample Moet & Chandon champagnes Saturday from 3-6 p.m.
The Wine Shop is also offering a special with Cafe Vicino next door. If you purchase a bottle of wine at the Co-op, Vicino will waive the corkage fee. More information is available via the store's Facebook page.
