Valley County came alive Jan. 25 for the first weekend of the 48th installment of the McCall Winter Carnival. Despite dismal traffic and heavy snowfall, the mood was upbeat with thousands of patrons taking in dozens of elaborate snow sculptures. Other events include snowshoe golf, tubing, a lobster feed, live tunes town-wide, a pair of exhibition collegiate hockey games between the University of Idaho and Boise State University, and several events at Brundage Mountain Resort.

Brundage Communications Director April Russell was thrilled with the turnout for the first weekend of the festival, and the snow at this year's events.

"We have had a foot this week and it looks like we could have another foot before the weekend is over," she said.

Additional events at the mountain include the Beer and Gear Festival at Brundage, which focuses on sharing what local ski industry folks are up to—including Ullr Skis, Payette Powder Guides, and Salmon River Brewery.

The carnival continues through Sunday, Feb. 3. For a full schedule of events check out the website.
