Treefort Music Fest, Boise's big musical shindig, is going down Thursday, March 21-Sunday, March 24. Up until now, the festival's organizers have been tight-lipped about what acts will grace its stages for the fest's sophomore year, releasing only a dozen or so names in December.

Regardless, wristbands for the festival have been selling well.

But today, the festival pushed out the first of three final announcements detailing the lineup, and it includes names certain to turn an ear or two.

High among them is Boise's own Youth Lagoon, which missed last year's festival because of touring obligations, and will be dropping its sophomore album, Wondrous Bughouse, on Tuesday, March 5, just two weeks before the festival.

Another big name is Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, a neo-soul revival act that melts together Roberta Flack, Quentin Tarantino soundtracks and mid-70s Motown to make sexy-as-hell tunes.

Also high on the totem pole is socially conscious indie-hip-hop icon Sage Francis, who toes the line between hip-hop and slam poetry, and was the first hip-hop act signed to punk label Epitaph Records. Francis now runs his own label, Strange Famous, which released an album from Boise rapper Curtis Plum.

But the biggest name released this round is experimental pop act Animal Collective, which has an impressive oeuvre that's standard issue for the indie-obsessed.

A number of other artists were announced, as well, including Dan Deacon, Delicate Steve, Pickwick and more. A list from the Treefort press release is below.

Treefort Press Liason Matt Dalley told BW that the remaining acts on the bill will be announced in two rounds, one Wednesday, Jan. 30, and the rest Thursday, Feb. 14., in which the final headliners will be announced.

The second episode of Road to Treefort, the festival's corresponding video series shot by local filmmaker Zach Voss, can be seen below.
