Outside Names Boise One of Country's Top River Towns

A couple of months ago, we told you about Outside Magazine's online vote to find the best river town in the country—Boise was one of 10 finalists.

Well, the results of the voting are on full display in the magazine's October issue. In it, the mag names what editors are calling the top adventure towns of 2012. The bad news: Richmond, Va., kind of kicked our cumulative butts, amassing 46 percent of the overall vote to Boise's 4 percent. The good news: At least we beat Nashville, Tenn. (2 percent), Milwaukee, Wisc. (3 percent) and Ithaca, N.Y. (1 percent).

The article praises the Greenbelt, as well as the Ridge to Rivers Foothills trail system, the plethora of outdoor community events, the Idaho Shakespeare Festival and Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area, along with the overall friendliness of the locals and the city's livability.

You can check out the article online to see what editors had to say about the other finalists—which also include Nevada City, Calif., Durango, Colo., Missoula, Mont., Ashville, N.C., and Hood River, Ore.—as well as several write-in towns and how the towns were selected.
