Los Angeles-based piano pimp Andy Frasco and his band, The U.N., have been making their rounds, playing 250 shows per year. The band dominated The Grove June 27, playing a lively show for Alive After Five. And it returned to the City of Trees Aug. 18 to perform for a smaller but equally enthused crowd at the Reef. Boise Weekly sat down with the big-haired front man between sets and got the lowdown on his tour, his music and upcoming shows.

BW: Welcome back to Boise. What brings you to our neck of the woods this time around?

Frasco: We're touring. We do 250 shows a year, 40 states, 65 cities. We play in Boise about four times a year.

What do you guys think of Boise after having played Alive After Five and some local joints?

Its great! Its cool to have the town close down and hear some music for a couple of hours. It's super sweet for a summer gig and people just coming to school. I can't ask for anything more for a summer gig. I appreciate Boise for that. They get it going and get dancing and all that.

Whats next?

We're opening for Joe Walsh and then doing a two-and-a-half-month tour around the country, and then we're going to Europe for a month and a half for a five-country tour out there.

What do you call your music?

Party blues. We just want to have a good time and make people laugh; make people get out of their heads for a second and live in the moment.

Do you have a musical agenda? If so what is it?

I just want people to be happy. I'm just a kid from the suburbs who had a dream of playing music. I've only been playing for five years. I really wanted it bad. It's the only thing that made me happy, and I can't ask for much more. If I can inspire people to do what they want to do because it makes them happy, then just go ahead and do it. We don't live too long, and people need to do what they love and love who they are.

Frasco is slated to open for Joe Walsh Wednesday, Aug. 22, at the grand opening of the Revolution Concert House in Garden City.
