On June 21, 1991—mere days before Croatia and Slovenia declared their independence from Yugoslavia and Sega dropped its first Sonic the Hedgehog game—Bar Gernika fried up its inaugural batch of croquetas on the Basque Block.
Now, 21 years later, the popular Basque pub and eatery is celebrating its anniversary today with a big damn party until the kitchen closes at 11 p.m.
Bar Gernika will serve up some of its classic menu items—like cheeseburgers, solomo sandwiches and croquetas—all at 1991 prices. Not to mention, all draft beer, wine and kalimotxos will be half price.
So throw on your best early ’90s pantsuit, book it down to the Basque Block, and party like the Soviet Union is about to collapse.
