Boise has some buzz bands. Sun Blood Stories isn't one of them. The blues project from local musician Ben Kirby eschews vogue and zeitgeist to focus on the blues roots that American music is built on. And blues just isn't what's buzzing right now. The band hasn't even hit 100 likes on Facebook yet.
But that says nothing about its quality.
Sun Blood Stories has a sound steeped in history—rough and raw like the honesty of an old recording with the storytelling style of a traveling minstrel. Kirby's gruff vocals and slide guitar are like a tour guide down the dark side of the street, exploring stories of sex, death and occasionally time travel.
BW caught up with Kirby during his performance at this year's Ranch Fest for the latest episode of our continuing video series on local music, Scenes From a Scene.
