If you were getting ready to pull on your galoshes and splash down to The Taphouse for its grand opening tonight, you might want to stay in on this rainy Thursday eve.

Taphouse co-owner Brian Forde just announced that the former Lobby space will not, in fact, be ready to open its doors to the public tonight as originally planned.

“We’ll for sure be open tomorrow at 4 p.m. and have food and a full bar, but tonight, we have to do another trial run to work out a few more kinks,” said Forde.

I wanted to give Taphouse a try for its opening week. I have nothing but positive things to say. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised by the service, food, and beer selection. There was a large group of us and we were greeted with a warm welcome and very helpful server. We ordered several items from the menu such as the buffalo chicken dip, wings, nachos, and burgers. All were excellent. I would describe the food as pub grub, but much classier and more refined. In fact, we had the choice of garlic or rosemary french fries. With 44 taps, the beer selection was very impressive. At our request, our server gave us a few samples to ensure we liked the taste of our selected beers. Everyone in our group left this place happy and satisfied. Finally, the decor of this place is nothing short of amazing. It's hard to think it was a lounge bar previously with black walls and a dingy floor. The Taphouse is very warm and striking with reclaimed bar wood, new bar top, and classy touches such as growler light fixtures. The bathroom was one of the nicest bathrooms I have been in at a restaurant. Finally, based on how much I love bittercreek Alehouse, the Taphouse is giving it a run for their money. I anticipate this place to be a huge success and many of the patrons of Bittercreek will find the Taphouse equal if not better because of the ability to watch tv-- the place has several tv's on each wall! Good food, good beer, good service. Two thumbs up!!
