Attention: Anyone who loves both bikes and beer (or either of the two) needs to mark his or her calendar for Saturday, Aug. 18. That's when the Tour de Fat will return to Boise.
New Belgium Brewing announced its 2012 summer schedule for the touring festival that celebrates all things bikes while serving as a fundraiser for local biking nonprofits at every stop. While Boise is far smaller in population than many of the other stops, participation in the City of Trees is usually among the best. Organizers expect that this year's tour will push the Tour de Fat fundraising total past the $2 million mark.
Tour de Fat has expanded again this year, with plans to hit 15 cities across the country with the addition of both Atlanta and Washington, D.C.
And, as usual, Tour organizers are in the process of looking for volunteers in each city willing to give up their cars and live car-free for one year. Anyone interested in taking New Belgium up on its offer can submit an application detailing why they are willing to make the swap from car to a brand-new bike by visiting the Tour de Fat Facebook page and uploading a video application or sending in a written one to email@example.com.
