At a large music festival such as Treefort, some might assume the bigger acts have huge record labels and budgets to tour.

But from March 22-25, only two buses were spotted in Boise (besides Kelly Clarkson’s of course), which shows that touring bands—even those we think are pretty big—by and large still travel by van or trailer. In fact, many bands at the festival were local or on a self-funded tour.

According to Matt Dalley, public relations director for Treefort, bands were selected based on their perceived fit with the vision for the festival, touring capabilities aside.

“We did get submissions from a ton of bands so us organizers had this really lengthy process of listening to hundreds of bands, and [we selected] the bands that really represented the festival well and what the festival is going for,” Dalley said.
