25 Days of Treefort: Grand Falconer

Local indie-folk outfit Grand Falconer has come a long way in only a few years. The Boise band has played gigs for community benefits, campus amphitheater sets and recorded much of its album in a kitchen. And now the fivesome is preparing to play Treefort Music Fest.

Comprised of Michael Johnson on vocals and guitar, Matt Coate on guitar and backup vocals, the lovely Danika McClure on cello and vocals, Eric Steiger on percussion and Zach Evans on bass, Gran Falconer creates a somber brand of acoustic folk that's both vintage and modern at once. To better represent that modern edge, the group uses social media to disseminate its sound, most recently with a live stream of the gang at work on tracking for a new video.

After years of working on its street cred in the local music scene, the young quintet is slated to play opening day at the Treefort Music Fest, Thursday, March 22 from 7-7:40 p.m. at the Linen Building. If the Grand Falconer's other shows are any indication, its reverent, soulful tracks will perfectly prep the audience for three days of music.
