Davy Jones Memorial Haikus

Though he and his fellow Monkees were picked to be on a TV show because they seemed safe, Davy Jones was somehow controversial. This was mostly because he and the other members of the band didn't play their own instruments. Though most pop singers are guilty of the same charge, with The Monkees, it somehow mattered. Perhaps it was because, unlike Britney Spears, The Monkees mimed. The band was comprised of fakers. But fakers who voiced some truly great pop tunes.

Those great pop tunes and Jones' easy-going manner was why he was named the No.1 teen idol of all time by Yahoo Music. Not bad for a kid who originally quit acting at age 14 to pursue a career as a jockey.

Though Jones continued acting and recorded an album of original tunes, that seemingly inane controversy followed him no matter what endeavors he later pursued.

Jones died of a heart attack in his Florida home this morning. He was 66.

As is BW's tradition with notable deaths, we reached out to our readers and staff for memorial haikus. The offerings are below. Any additional haikus may be left in the comment box.
