Oscar season has officially begun. Sure, the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild nominations have already been announced, each a precursor for Oscar second-guessers. But nominations ballots were dropped in the mail Tuesday to 4,783 members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Actors nominate actors, writers nominate writers, directors nominate directors and so on. The ballots will be due back on Friday, Jan. 13. Nominations will be revealed on Tuesday, Jan. 24, and the statuettes will be given out on Sunday, Feb. 26.
In today's BW, I revisit my own competition (with a nod to college basketball's March Madness) with my bracket of how I ranked the best of the best of 2011. I was privileged to see a number of the films before they've opened in Boise (for example The Artist and Albert Nobbs), but I'm pretty confident that you'll like them as well.
