It's a big time of year for Pokemon enthusiasts—you know, Pokemon, that franchise that's swept the world for more than a decade now. The Play! Pokemon Trading Card Game city championships started in the United States last month, and continue through January 2012.

For Boise Pokemon-lovers, the city championship is happening today at the Boise State Student Union building. Players in three age divisions can share their Poke-passion and have some fun while earning points and vying for the title of city champion.

National championships will be held June 29-July 1, 2012, in Indiana, and the top Poke-players will be invited to play among the palm trees at the world championships in Waikoloa, Hawaii, Aug. 10-12, 2012.

Even if you haven't thought about Pokemon since 2007, go watch the city championship. Just one visit to the Pokemon website provides enough obscure terminology to make a Poke-novice's head spin. This event is totally FREE and starts at 11 a.m.

Wow, and I thought my life was pathetic. These people give a new meaning to the word.
