Idaho City Skate Park to Host Inaugural Skateboard and Motorcycle Ride

Local hot-rod junkie Matt Whitlock, Prestige Skateboards and hot-rod/chopper shop Wrecked Metals are taking music, motorcycles and skateboards to the Idaho City Skate Park on Sunday, July 31.

Whitlock, a longtime grease monkey, started putting this event together in the interest of all things punk rock. Having worked at Wrecked Metals for more than five years, he thought it would act as an excellent excuse to get freewheeling folks out of the house and pair bikers and boarders together in an unusual way.

The event is free, and any and all skateboard and motorcycle enthusiasts are encouraged to attend. Although still in the organizing phase, Whitlock is expecting at least 20 to 30 people—but he is in no way married to the idea that size matters.

“If there are 10 of us, it will still be fun,” said Whitlock. “I’m just trying to put together an event that costs me nothing and costs everyone else nothing.”

Details are still being ironed out, but motorcycles should meet at Ben’s Crow Inn, 6781 Warm Springs Ave., at 1:30 p.m. to leave for Idaho City at 2 p.m. Skateboarders should grab their shred sticks and find a ride—they should be at the skate park by 3 p.m. There are no prizes, no sponsors and no expectations other than to go and have a good time.
