This summer, the Linen Building will host the inaugural Bring It to the Stage music competition, a gathering of musicians competing for a $1,000 cash prize, 10 hours of studio time at the Mix House, and personal graphic design from Blakbook Design Studio.
Bands that meet the Friday, July 1, entry deadline will compete on Fridays: July 15 from 7:30-10 p.m.; Aug. 5 and Aug. 26 from 8-10 p.m.; and Sept. 16 from 8-10 p.m. for the grand finale. Only 16 groups will be selected from the initial pool of entrants so bands are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible.
Judges will base their decisions on music, lyrics, arrangement, originality, vocal ability, stage presence, connection to the audience and overall presentation. A ballot box will be provided for audience members to cast their votes on the first three nights of competition and a panel of guest judges will be provided for the finale.
Performers will have 12-15 minutes to run through their set, which includes walking on and off stage. Once a single band member is in view of the audience, the timer will start and points will be deducted for every minute that bands go over.
All genres are welcome and all contestants must provide a phone number and email address. Bands that make it to the final 16 will also be responsible for a $25 entrance fee and a sample CD.
“We are just trying to look for hidden talent in Boise,” said Pete Canlas, DJ and owner of Uneek Entertainment.
