Whether you’re a millinery maven with a taste for mint juleps or a high roller looking to drop a dime on an underdog, the Kentucky Derby is filled with spirited Southern intrigue. One of America’s oldest thoroughbred horse races, the Kentucky Derby takes place every year on the first Saturday in May at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.
If you can’t make it to Louisville this year, here are a couple spots in Boise where you can celebrate:
Woodriver Cellars will project the race on the big screen from 2-6 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, with app and drink specials and a crazy hat contest.
Helina Marie's in Star is also hosting a Derby party, which includes a wine tasting, lunch, Derby favors, a memory photo and entry into a prize drawing. Tickets are $25 per person; make reservations at 208-286-7960.
Piper Pub and Grill is having a Derby throwdown starting at 3 p.m. with live music from Brandon Pritchett.
