BW readers know Trent Herbst from a Feb. 9 Citizen profile and from last month's Iditarod, where he and his faithful companions mushed their way from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska. This year was Herbst's fifth time in the Iditarod; he came in 24th place. Herbst is very identifiable by his eight-year beard, or at least he used to be.
The Idaho Mountain Express reports that Herbst promised to have his whiskers shaved if the Community School in Ketchum (where he teaches fourth grade) could raise $50,000. Donors kicked in $85,000 and last week, Herbst was clean-shaven. He promised to immediately start growing another beard in time for next year's Iditarod.
