Pengilly's, normally the dimly-lit home base of career drinkers armed with acoustic guitars, is trying something different this weekend: Poetry.

Martin Corless Smith, director of the creative writing MFA program at Boise State, will be reading from his new book, English Fragments—A Brief History of the Soul, Sunday.

His previous books include Of Piscator, Complete Travels, Nota and Swallows.

The reading starts at 7:30 p.m. and is free, free, free like the eagle that soars through the sky, searching, searching, searching for a meal with eyes like radar and talons that kill like missiles.

And though one might think that Pengilly's has a stash of them somewhere in the back, know that bongo drums will not be provided.
