The Boise Co-op
, Treasure Valley Farm Coalition
and North End Organic Nursery
have joined forces for the First Annual Tour de Coop
on Saturday, September 11 for just $5 per person (kids are free).
It's a self-guided tour around town visiting some of the swankiest digs egg-layers have ever seen. You can either register online or that morning in person at the Saturday Market
where you can also pick up a map. The tour lasts from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and is followed by a free after-party at North End Organic Nursery from 2-5 p.m.
Backyard chickens have become a popular part of the urban farming movement and Boise is no exception, with city regulations allowing residents to own up to three hens.
From what I hear, chickens not only provide families with fresh eggs, they also make great pets. I'm hoping to find out myself soon, as we have plans for baby chicks to arrive this spring and I've already picked out the paint colors for the coop. I can't wait to pick up some new ideas from visiting our feathered friends (and their owners).
