Leave it up to the Western Idaho and Canyon County Fairs to continue to provide kitschy themes on the subject of agriculture, livestock and carnivals year after year. Remember “Poultry in Motion”, “Fun for the Whole Herd” or “Flock, Stock and Barrels of Fun”? This year's Canyon County Fair and Festival, which bears the theme “Wheelin’ & Squealin,'" is no different.
Although the fun doesn't roll into until July 29-August 1, this year is host to their first YouTube Pork Recipe contest, which welcomed video submissions on all things swine-tastic from pork chops to bacon brownies.
The Canyon County Fair features all the standard county fair events, including prize-winning jams, deep-fried delicacies, sweaty carnies and barns bursting with livestock. End each day riding nauseating carnival rides and gorging on elephant ears with a night of live music, ranging from classic rock to country to bluegrass.
Classic ‘60s performers, The Guess Who, who are most well-known for “American Woman”, open up the festival on Thursday, July 29 at 8 p.m.
Clay Walker, who just released his 11th album She Won’t Be Lonely Long, has recently gained more attention outside of the traditional country music circuits, appearing on the George Lopez Show earlier this month. He'll perform Saturday, July 30.
Little River Band, who is originally from Australia, took the United States by storm in the '70s and ’80s with hits, such as "Lady" and "Reminiscing." They'll perform Sunday, August 1.
Tickets can be purchased at ICTicket outlets and online. Advance reserved seating is $20 or $25 at the gates, beginning at 7:00pm on day of the show.
