The Statesman is reporting this morning that the man-made pools at Rocky Canyon Hot Springs were removed yesterday.
Boise National Forest Emmett Ranger District Ranger John R. Erickson told citydesk a few weeks ago that he knew people were upset with the agency's decision to remove the concrete pools, but that there was no process for appealing the removal.
Erickson said the process that should have been followed would have been to apply to the Forest Service to put in the pools in the first place.
"These were put in without public input, without recognition of the cultural values," Erickson said. "They’re just illegal and leaving them there condones it."
The man who built the concrete pools was caught nearly a year ago, but federal prosecutors have not released his name. He has reportedly done his penance.
