On Oct. 4, Memphis punk rocker Jay Reatard posted the following, slightly @courtneylover79-ish note on Twitter: "In the van on the way back to memphis . Forst leg of the shattered tour was a smash thank you to everyone who partied down with all of us freaks !"
Something must have gone very wrong on Oct. 5, because on Oct. 6, the mood changed: "Band quit ! Fuck them ! They are boring rich kids who can't play for ahit anyways .. Say hello to your ugly and boring wifes opps I mean lifes guys suck it."
Pitchfork.com confirmed that "bassist Stephen Pope and drummer Billy Hayes have indeed quit the band."
Reatard tweeted that he is looking for replacements: "So who wants to see just how terrible it is to play in my band . I mean its so so hard I promise its the worst :) Jayreatard@gmail.com." He must expect to find some new bandmates soon because, so far, none of his U.S./European tour dates have been canceled.
