Strange as it sounds, you can hear some of the finest examples of American jazz and blues music from the deep delta of the south to the California coast on Saturday in Mountain Home at the Third Annual Great Basin Blues Festival.

Legendary bluesmen T Model Ford and Bill Abel are back this year as well as Mississippian Robert Belfour, ex-Boisean/San Francisco-based John Nemeth and locals The B3 Side and the BoDo Brothers.

Performers at the first GBBF included Abel, Ford, Cedric Burnside, Cadillac John Nolden, Monroe Jones and Lightnin' Malcolm, and last year Abel, Burnside, Ford, Nolden, Jones were joined by locals Carl Holmes, Lara Price and Sirah Storm.

We're as surprised as you are that Ford, Abel, Belfour and Nemeth would travel so far to play a park in Mountain Home, but after what we experienced at last year's performances, we couldn't be happier.

Saturday, Aug. 22, gates at 1 p.m., $20 at the gate (no advance ticket sales available), children 9 and younger are free; credit cards are accepted at the door, no coolers or alcohol, food and alcohol will be sold on the premises. Optimist Park, Mountain Home
