Bars and Stripes Interactive Photo Map

Boise Weekly and the dudes at Northstar Cycle Courier put on a fine cycling event this July 4, and I am not biased. The bastards wouldn't tell me the course ahead of time and made me pay to ride even though I work there and we local media people never pay for anything.

But I gladly shelled over $13 for my chance to hit up 13 bars in under two hours, the hottest two hours of the day, mind you.

The key to this race is route finding. Well, the key is being in shape, but the second key is efficient orienteering and even though I finished solidly in the middle of the pack, I still think I had a descent route.

Just before the start, every racer gets a list of 13 stops. You can hit them in any order and have to perfrom certain tasks and get a manifest signed at each stop. Your tasks include AT LEAST three beverages.

The map below shows each of the stops. The little green bike is the starting line outside BW HQ. Click through to see my route starting with the East Side, heading up to the bench, then downtown, Hyde Park, Garden City and finally to The Lift on State Street.

Tell me why your route was better in the comments below. And click through to the larger map to add your comments to each stop, link to your photos on Facebook or Flikr or whereever alley cats post their photos these days (click a point in Google Maps and hit the little photo icon to link to photos), and add waypoints for detours, flat tires, asshole drivers or other interesting events you may have encountered along the way.

(NOTE: You must be logged into Google Maps to edit and add photos. It's free and they already have all your info anyway so you might as well. Click on the Bars and Stripes map and click edit.)

2010, Im'a get some tattoos and I'm in it to win it, baby.
