And the Talk Continues



News of French restaurant Andrae's July 23 closure was made all the more poignant by a broadcast today of Boise State Radio's Edible Idaho. Chef owner of the restaurant Andrae Bopp talked to reporter Guy Hand (who has become infamous for writing the Idaho Statesman's review that allegedly closed down Mortimer's) about the business of Boise's downtown restaurant industry.

In an interview that aired today on National Public Radio, Bopp and BW's Editor Rachael Daigle talked about how independent eateries are faring in the face of increasing corporate competition downtown. The story—for which interviews were taped prior to the announcement that Andrae's would close—was amended just before it aired in order to address the closing.

In the same interview, Chef John Berryhill of Berryhill and Co. and managing partner for Bonefish Grill John Aemmer advocate for having larger restaurant chains in the downtown area, saying chains are not only good for the overall business health of downtown but they make important charitable contributions to the local community.
