A big round of applause please for Uup, the unofficial name for what could become the newest addition to the periodic table.
Time Magazine reports that researchers at Sweden's Lund University say ununpentium—or Uup—is roughly based on the Latin and Greek words for the digits in its atomic number. The researchers said their findings back up claims of a new element made by scientists nearly a decade ago that had remained unverified.
Element 115 will get a formal name if the discovery is approved by the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics and Chemistry.
Just last year, the man-made elements 114 and 116 were officially named flerovium (Fl) and livermorium (Lv).
