Officials at the Snake River Correctional Institution continue to investigate the June 28 murder of an inmate.

28-year-old Jason Gould was rushed to a local hospital after being attacked by a cellmate. Gould died the next day. Prison officials aren't yet releasing how Gould was killed or what the nature of his injuries were.

Gould had been imprisoned on two counts of heroin possession and two counts of attempted robbery.

This morning's Ontario Observer reports that Gould's alleged attacker, 27-year-old Thomas Riffenburg, had been previously accused of threatening another inmate with a weapon at the Multnomah County Inverness Jail in Portland in 2012.

Riffenburg is imprisoned on seven counts of robbery and one count of attempted assault in connection with the previous incident at the Portland jail.

The Observer reports that the Oregon State Police Criminal Investigation Division is conducting the investigation into Gould's death.
