In September 2012, Citydesk first reported that due to financial straits, the Idaho County Food Bank had to close its doors. The nonprofit served more than 700 families per year, including distributions of Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner baskets.

But on Wednesday, Idaho County Prosecutors filed an affidavit of probable cause alleging that the former manager of the food bank committed four felony counts of grand theft for stealing more than $50,000 from the charity.

51-year-old Leta Atkins of Grangeville is alleged to have taken the money between May 2009 and August 2012.

In September 2012, Atkins told the Idaho County Free Press, "I feel the dissolving of the food bank will really hurt people in this community, but the board decided there was no other way to continue."
