While most citizens have turned their thoughts to warmer days, officials in Hailey are worried about next winter and, in particular, frozen pipes.
The Idaho Mountain Express reports that Hailey crews responded to 42 incidents involving frozen water lines due to this winter's deep freeze—18 of which involved city property. The rest were on service lines between homes and meter vaults.
The Mountain Express reports that the Hailey City Council is considering a new ordinance that would hold private property owners financially responsible for frozen pipes.
But some residents say the City has only itself to blame since many of the pipes were not buried deep enough during much of Hailey's infrastructure construction in the 1970s.
The proposal is expected to resurface at a public meeting slated for Monday, April 15.
