The trial of a former University of idaho student—accused of the rape of a U of I freshman during the 2012 homecoming weekend—begins today in Moscow's 2nd District Court.
Jesse Vierstra, 20, is charged with the rape of an 18-year-old Oct. 6, 2012, outside of the Sigma Chi fraternity house on the U of I campus. The alleged victim said she had worked with Vierstra at a restaurant in Twin Falls, their hometown, in the summer of 2012. Vierstra attended the university in 2011-2012 and he was a pledge at Sigma Chi before the fraternity said it kicked him out.
Vierstra pleaded innocent to the charge. He faces life in prison if convicted.
