McCall city officials are remaining tight-lipped, but this morning's McCall Star-News reports that McCall Chief of Police Jerry Summers has been suspended from his job. The Star-News confirmed the suspension with Det. Sgt. Larry Stokes, who said he had been appointed acting chief and that other McCall police department supervisors had been told of Summers' suspension.

Former Valley County Prosecuting Attorney Matt Williams told the Star-News that he had been hired to represent Summers.

Summers has been McCall's police chief since 2005. He joined the department in 1997.

Summers' suspension comes in the wake of a recently completed public survey of McCall citizens' opinions of their city's police force. The Star-News reports that "about 75 percent of the responses included additional comments, most of which focused on the number of traffic stops and officer behavior."

Survey respondents gave the McCall Police Department an overall rating of 5.87 out of 10.
