A man known in the Wood River Valley for his appearance in numerous theatrical and musical productions faces two felony charges of having a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old.
This morning's Idaho Mountain Express reports that 31-year-old Dawson Howard recently had a leading role in a nexStage Theatre production of Twelfth Night.
But Howard was locked up after being formally charged with the crimes of rape and lewd conduct with a child under 16. Either crime is punishable by up to life in prison.
Prosecutors said Howard's relationship with the young girl dated back to 2008, when he was a camp counselor and the victim was enrolled in a drama camp. Law enforcement says the relationship continued online, and the two were together in August 2012.
Howard was released from the Blaine County Jail on Jan. 17 after posting $30,000 bond. His arraignment is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 28.
