Citing "widespread cases of the flu," the Central District Health Department announced today that it will hold a walk-in flu clinic open to all children, ages 6 months to 18 years, on Tuesday, Jan. 22, from 1-3 p.m. at its office at 707 N. Armstrong Place in Boise. There will be an administration fee of $20.13 for the vaccine but a sliding fee scale will be available based on income.
In a report issued today, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention director Dr. Thomas Frieden cautioned that the nation was "about halfway through" the flu season and "it's shaping up to be worse that the average season."
To date, Idaho has reported nine flu-related deaths, all among people older than 50 years of age.
"We've been getting a lot of calls from concerned parents," said CDHD Immunizations Manager Rachelle Collinge. "We've got the vaccine, so we want to get children immunized."
