IBR: New GBAD Board Member Anxious to Build Consensus

The Greater Boise Auditorium District has turned to a high-profile real estate broker and developer to become the board's newest member.

The Idaho Business Review reports that Peter Oliver, a founding member of Thornton Oliver Keller, was sworn in Jan. 15 to the GBAD board. Oliver replaces longtime GBAD Board Member Gail May, who resigned in December.

"I try to keep an open mind and try not to get tunnel vision," Oliver told IBR's Sean Olson, when Oliver was asked about the GBAD's options to build a new convention center or renovate the existing Boise Centre. "From more than a 20,000-foot level, it's about contributing to the community; it's about building consensus."

BW has chronicled the melodrama surrounding GBAD, including its November session (BW, News, "All My GBAD Children," Nov. 28, 2012), where GBAD Board Member Judy Peavey-Derr chided her colleagues by saying, "I would hope that we would act more like statesmen and less like children." The meeting also included the revelation that the entity had few, if any, documented procedures on is disbursement authority.
